Job Description – Finance Assistant
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance Assistant to manage the company’s day-to-day financial transactions, maintain accurate accounting records, and assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge, hands-on experience with Xero, advanced Excel skills, and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain accurate bookkeeping records in Xero.
2. Process and reconcile bank, credit card, and intercompany transactions.
3. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
4. Perform monthly bank, supplier, and customer reconciliations.
5. Payroll & Compliance
-Prepare and post payroll journals accurately.
-Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts.
-Demonstrate a good understanding of:
>PAYE (Pay As You Earn)
>National Insurance (NI)
>Workplace Pensions
>Payroll deductions and statutory payments
-Liaise with payroll providers and internal stakeholders when required.
-Support payroll-related month-end and year-end reconciliations.
6. Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
7. Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
8. Prepare journals, accruals, prepayments, and other accounting adjustments.
9. Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
10. Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and compliant with company policies.
11. Generate ad hoc financial reports and analyses as required.
12. Liaise with internal teams regarding finance-related queries.
13. Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
1. Strong understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices.
2. Practical experience with Xero Accounting Software.
3. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including:
-Pivot Tables
-VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
-SUMIFS
-Data validation and reporting
-Basic financial analysis
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
5. Good written and verbal communication skills.
6. Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
7. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Experience:
1. 2-5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
2. Experience preparing management accounts will be highly advantageous.
3. Previous experience in a professional services, accounting, or finance environment preferred.
Education:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
2. AAT, ACCA, CA Inter, CMA, or equivalent qualifications will be an added advantage.
